BACKGROUND
The Kouga Wind Farm Community Development Trust was founded by the investors of Kouga Wind Farm, a renewable energy project based in Oysterbay, as a part of the latter’s commitment to community development in its beneficiary communities.
The trust holds a 26% stake in the renewable energy project through funding obtained from the Industrial Development Corporation to ensure the designated communities benefit meaningfully in the project. It invests these funds in various community development initiatives in line with its Trust Deed.

Sustainable Community
A sustainable community manages its human, natural and financial capital to meet current needs while ensuring that adequate resources are available for future generations. Sustainable communities are places where people want to live and work. They meet the diverse needs of existing and future residents, are sensitive to their environment, and contribute to a high quality of life. Resilient Community
A resilient community can withstand, adapt to and recover from adversity. Community resilience is the sustained ability of a community to use available resources (energy, communication, transportation, food, etc.) to respond to, withstand and recover from adverse situations (e.g., economic collapse, natural disasters).
Empowered Community
An empowered community is an enabled community that have control over their lives. It means the community has the resources and talent to manage its affairs, to control and influence relevant groups and forces within and outside the community, and to develop empowered leaders and community organisations.

To fund and support interventions aimed at improving the quality of life, and the quality of education & skills through collaboration with key stakeholders.
In its role as a catalyst, the Trust will focus on issues or systemic problems that stand in the way or prohibits our communities to become thriving, resilient, sustainable and empowered and we will work collaboratively with others to achieve our vision and mission.
