KWFCDT Afterschool Programme - Sciebcem Coding & Robotics

Science, Coding and Robotics!

The Kouga Wind Farm Community Development Trust (KWFCDT) is proud to lead the way in empowering young learners with essential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills through its Afterschool Programme: Science, Coding, and Robotics.

This programme is a transformative initiative aimed at sparking long-term interest in science, coding, and robotics among foundation phase learners across six beneficiary schools.

Infrastructure to Support Innovative Learning
The programme has been rolled out across six beneficiary schools, with the Trust ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place for optimal learning experiences. To date, the Trust has equipped six state-of-the-art science labs and three fully functional computer labs, creating an environment where over 3,500 learners can participate in practical experiments, coding tutorials, and robotics projects. These well-equipped labs provide a foundation for learners to explore and innovate.

Empowering Educators and Local Youth

A key focus of the programme is empowering educators and local youth. The Trust has successfully trained 46 teachers through the Six Bricks Online Certification Programme, ensuring they are equipped with modern teaching methods to enhance learners’ experiences. Additionally, five local youth, referred to as ‘Super Users,’ have been employed as programme champions. These Super Users support teachers in implementing the programme and play a vital role in ensuring its success.

Ongoing Tutorials and Impact
Currently, science lab-based practicals, along with coding and robotics tutorials are ongoing.

The programme aims to spark a long-term interest in STEM subjects, promote academic success, and open pathways to technology-driven careers.

By empowering educators, employing local youth, and equipping schools with the technology, the Trust continues to invest in the future of its beneficiary communities.
